MAN UP
Review
It’s a short movie, but I guarantee it will be the best 80 minutes of your life. This is a simple comedy, but beware — simple doesn’t mean bad, it’s easy to understand and as such, you will love it from the beginning (well maybe you won’t love it, but I swear you will enjoy it from moment zero).
When I was a child the romantic movies that used to be shown on TV, showed the main girls well dressed, with lush skin (so I guess they were perfectly made up), with the perfect hairstyle, always optimistic and with a smile on their lips; therefore… I felt like a mistake of nature, having my hair disheveled, because I always had crazy hairs everywhere, also for not always having a smile on my lips and last but not least for barely showing my optimism….
But gosh, this movie shows a real woman, Nancy (Lake Bell) is a 34 year old journalist, who is not doing well in love, but that does not depress her, she faces it with humor and sarcasm, but come on, if you know her better, you will understand that she is a romantic.
Nancy runs, sweats, dances, drinks a lot, in short… She lives a real life, where her hairstyle doesn’t always fit perfectly, because who can go through life with a perfect hairstyle, right?- Life has so many surprises, that eventually it ends up messing up your hair, and most of the time not only your hair.
The synopsis is this:
Nancy on the way to her parents’ house, meets a girl very different from her, with the perfect hairstyle, optimistic, who even dares to give her a book, which will change Nancy’s life, and it´s not that the book per se will change Nancy’s life by reading it, but this book leads her to meet Jack (Simon Pegg), with whom she will live fun adventures, where both will know each other. They will discover their true characters, because they will not only show that “nice side” that is usually shown in the first dates, for few events that I will not spoil, they will show their true selves, and in that way, they will discover what they were missing in their lives.
One of the reasons to consider it good is because it has good characters, a funny plot and a phenomenal landscape, because although the protagonists make the film, the scenery, London is also part of the characters. The film shows you panoramic shots of the city; which contribute to make you feel inside the film.
Nancy is a little crazy, but as the plot progresses you understand why she acts this way and you can also realize that Jack is her ideal complement, because Jack is not a prince charming, in fact I think he is better because he is as bizarre as Nancy.
Nancy and Jack’s story ends with a tremendous… owww!
I like this movie so much that I decided to write the review in another language, so that those who don’t know it yet don’t miss it.
For this review the song I recommend is Mecnun from Buray.
I hope you watch it, enjoy it and sigh a lot.
See you next time
